The foundations of Moutere Waters were laid over 75,000 years ago during the last Ice Age. At that time glaciers amassed across the New Zealand mainland and much of the earth's surface. As they formed they drew in the pure water of this ancient time, the air and land all untouched by human existence. New Zealand in particular remained a thoroughly pristine and picturesque paradise, many thousands of years before its discovery by Maori explorers.
Over 27,000 years ago those ancient glaciers began to melt and while much of the glacial water ran off into the Southern Pacific Ocean some of this precious water was filtered through the local Moutere gravels into an underground aquifer, half a kilometre below the earth’s surface. There Moutere ancient glacial waters have remained hidden for thousands of years before a chance discovery by local farmers thirty years ago, whom were the first to uncover the rare fossil waters of the Moutere aquifer.
